Real time translation of Web videos

Ortsbo a Canadian startup company has released its Live & Global platform at CES 2012 in Las Vegas. This new product can do real time translation of videos in 53 languages including Spanish, French, Yiddish, Chinese, Arabic and Hebrew. One of the principal markets for the product is real time closed captioning of international corporate events.

In a demo at the conference the application translated online chat with participants from 92 countries. Its potential application includes translating Google’s YouTube videos and Skype conversations. Ortsbo has created several desktop and smartphone based instantaneous translation packages which form bulk of its revenues.

Perhaps, some of you will say that there are much better online translators than Pragma. And that's partly true. But, have you ever needed to translate from Russian to Ukrainian and vica verse? Nevertheless, these languages are very similar, that's a real problem, I must say.

Nevertheles, online-translators make the process of translation much easier, the translations they suggest us need to be edited. In this case we can't do without dictionaries, especially online ones.

The first online translation service was provided from 1988 be Systran Center in Paris to the subscribers of the french postpone service of Minitel.
